Town boss Joe Royle has revealed that he has had a loan bid for a Premiership player turned down. However, Royle says he is still waiting to hear from other clubs.

Individual errors and occasionally baffling refereeing led to Town exiting the FA Cup at the hands of Sunderland. Tommy Smith controversially netted on 45 before a calamitous Kelvin Davis error handed Julio Arca a second Black Cats goal. Town rallied late on, but Martijn Reuser's goal wasn't enough.

Reading manager Steve Coppell has refused to comment on reports claiming Town are interested in taking Shaun Goater on a three-month loan, although he does imply that he has spoken with Joe Royle on the matter.

Town will make an announcement later today regarding the club's share issue. The cut-off date for registration was 5pm last night, although applications which arrive in the next couple of days will not be discarded.

Town eventually won an extraordinary game against Crewe 6-4 at a rain-soaked Portman Road. The visitors fought back from 2-0 and 3-2 down to level, with the help of two Town own goals, but in the end the Blues just about did enough to take a vital three points.

Full-back Matt Richards has recovered from his hamstring injury and is expected to be fit to face Crewe on Saturday. However, Martijn Reuser is a doubt after a recurrence of a stomach bug.

Three second half goals took Town to a win over Derby and their first FA Cup victory against league opposition for five years. Second half subs Jim Magilton and Shefki Kuqi played pivotal roles as Richard Naylor, Tommy Miller and Kuqi netted the goals which defeated George Burley's men.
